Lorie & Jamie Discover Deutschland!

The Staff at Gasthaus Hertzler welcomed Lorie & Jamie Moran on a recent adventure to Germany!

The trip started out great, especially for Stew as they arrived with an entire duffel bag full of birthday presents from his Aunts, Uncles, and Grandparents!  Though mildly afraid of wrapping paper and unwrapping presents in general, he was very pleased with the array of trains, books and costumes that were inside.

The two came prepped and ready for an adventure of a lifetime and I don't think they were disappointed.  All of the usual Gasthaus Hertzler perks and privileges were in place, and it wasn't long before we were dining on Schnitzel and Beer at the now famous Frankfurter Hof in Bad Soden.

In the days following we hit all the usual sights, but as always added a couple of new and interesting twists.  One of those being a weekend excursion to one of the most beautiful and well preserved cities in Germany;  Bamberg!   Almost completely spared during the war, this university town is as well known for their cobblestone paths as they are for their Famous Rauch Bier (Smoked Beer)!  If you have ever wondered what it would be like to drink a smoked ham, this is as close as you are going to get.  We stayed in a 1500 Century Brauhaus where we were treated to some some AMAZING meals paired with equally tasty beers.  The owner himself took us on a tour of his small brewery while teaching us all of the tricks of the trade.  Did you know that the best brewers in medival times were women because they had the best natural sense of temperature to ensure the beer wart (pre-beer) was cooked properly???

We spent an afternoon in the old medieval town where our very own tour guide took us on a wild journey back in time!  He was even kind enough to answer all, and I mean ALL, of a certain young mans many questions no matter how personal, random, or bizarre they might be (Jamie).

On the trip back to Frankfurt we stopped for a surprisingly cool tour of the old town of Wurzberg!  Having never been there ourselves it was really fun to discover a new town together.  If you are planning a trip here in the near future, this might just be on your itineary.

While visiting the ancient city of Koenigstein on a cool and cloudy day, we were treated to an impromtu performance by one of Koenigstein's most famous thespians, Thadeus Von Lichtensetin of Bad Soden, while siting atop the 14th century castle ruins.  Lorie just happened to catch it on video, so check it out.....(Oscar Nomination Pending):

We can only hope that this is going to be one or at least 2 trips back for The Family Moran.  Lorie and Todd have already started planning "Ski Week 2013: The Austrian Alps".  Would you expect anything less from two of the most vacation addicted people in the world???  I think not.

So glad you guys made the trip, you know, cause when the baby comes....it aint gonna get easier....when the baby comes.  OK?

Here are some more AWESOME pics......

Check out the rest.....
