Kitzbühl, Austria - Bosch Ski Trip

We have been firmly implanted with the Ski bug after our last trip to Alpbach.

So much so that some colleagues and I planned a short trip to world famous Kitzbül Austria. Home to the most challenging World Cup Ski Race in the world! Jackie, Stew, and Julie stayed back in Frankfurt for some R&R and sisterly bonding.

The resort itself is ENORMOUS and more impressive than anything I have ever seen. It has all the modern conveniences (heated gondolas, heating chair lift seats, etc) but retains all of its old world charm. Including small "hutte's" scattered around the mountain dating back 100 plus years where you can warm up with some Goulash Soup and Hot Spiced Wine. Sooooooo good.

We stayed in a cool Inn / Cheese Making Barn (seriously) in the out skirts of town that provided everything a successful ski weekend requires - a comfortable bed, great regional food, plenty of Schnapps and some traditional Tyrolean Slap Dancing.

After our first intense day on the slopes we headed into downtown Kitzbuel for some epic Après Ski activities (singing, dancing, etc). We returned back to the inn for a traditional venison and knudle (potato thing) feast. Finally we headed outside to the toboggan run where a tractor was waiting to haul the group up the mountain to a cozy little bar at the top with food, music, and entertainment.

The beer continued to flow well into the evening and culminated with an impromptu performance of Traditional Tyrolean Slap Dancing. Below you will find a video which I will be studying over the next few months so that I can perform this exact dance at weddings, bar mitzvahs, baby showers and a like upon our return to the States.

Sunday we hit the slopes again to find temperatures hovering just above zero. After a few more hours on some amazing snow, we packed it in and headed back to Frankfurt in time for a late dinner at home.

The fact that world class skiing can be found 4 hours from our front door has elevated our European adventure to an all new level. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
