Kelter Fest - Mammolshain, Oct 17th!

One of the benefits of living in Germany is that there is some kind of "Fest" almost every weekend. In the summer it is wine and beer fests, in September its the Oktoberfest and Wine Harvest Fest, and in October you find many Apfel (Apple) Festivals.

These pictures are from The Apple & Chestnut Fest in Mammolshain which is just 5 or 10 minutes from our house. Roasted chestnuts, local food, and of course the Apple Wine was abundant. The region we live in, Hessen, claims to have the best Apple Wine in Germany. It can be served "süß" which is mixed with sprite (women), or "spritz" which is mixed with carbonated water (men), or straight for those looking to make a whole night of it!

These festivals are a great excuse to get out of the house on the weekends and mingle with the locals.

Here are a few pics (hint: that blue and white thing is a giant pitcher, or Bembel, out of which Apple Wine is poured)
